We had a great time of ministry at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Belleville, Michigan this past week. The congregation was eager to show their love to our team throughout the entire time we were there. From the start of the week, we were able to meet many of them for the first time, but Mt. Calvary has been ministry partners with the Coffeys for many years now. They were almost as excited as we were to begin the week.
After a great start on Sunday, we got to Monday evening and all the power in the area of the church was out for the service. Despite the fading sunlight, the faithful members of the church came anyway. We continued on without the sound system or any lights and had a candle-lit service in the auditorium. That made the evening service quite memorable!
For our first week of our children’s program, we had a great group of children. They practiced hard with our Secret Codes (5 truths about the gospel stated in an easy way for children to understand), our memory verse of Matthew 16:24, and our song for the week. Monday God provided us a great object lesson with the lack of electricity to really drive home to the children the realities of the underground church all over the world!
The people in this church love to be together, so on Tuesday night we had a teen activity with some pizza and games. On Wednesday the teens provided dessert for all of the church to come enjoy after the Irish Concert. Mr. Jason got a headful of shaving cream from the children’s efforts to reach the goal of attendance for the week. It was great fun for everyone at the dessert time to enjoy! We also had Ardis saw on the strings of her “fiddle” and play Orange Blossom Special. What a great way to end out the week.
