Having the opportunity to travel with the Coffey team is really exciting. I joined them a few weeks ago, so I’m just now starting to adapt to life on the road. We’ve only been to one church so far, but I already feel like I’ve experienced so much! Getting to talk with some incredible people, each with a unique story to tell, has been such an encouragement.
I’m writing this having returned from an evening service at a rescue mission in downtown Chattanooga, TN. I was able to have a conversation with a young man who gave his life to Christ four days ago. It was so encouraging to hear how God has changed his whole perspective on life! He’s now heading back home to restore the broken relationships within his family. I asked him if that seemed daunting to him, but he said he’s a totally new person, so there’s nothing to worry about. What an amazing example of what Paul writes to the Corinthian church: “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new” (2 Cor. 5:17).
The same gospel that produced such a radical change in his life is the very same gospel that needs to change me each and every day, and that’s why I’m glad to be with this team. I’m not expecting my time here to be without difficulties. I’m sure I’ll be stretched in many different ways, but we’re all here to push each other toward Christ. With the focus on the gospel, I’m excited to grow through it all.
