A Day in the Windy City

Since our meeting at Independent Baptist Church ended on Thursday night, Pastor Jack offered to show us around Chicago. To get there, we took the METRA train from Lisle all the way downtown to Union Station. The kids loved looking at the scenery pass by and the conductor coming through to punch our tickets. That alone would have made the day memorable for them...but it was only the beginning of our day trip!

We walked from Union Station to Millennial Park to get our reflection pictures taken in the Bean. There were plenty of people enjoying the wonderful sunshine and warm temperatures. Our hike out to Michigan Avenue flew by as we took in the sights and sounds of Chicago’s downtown. For lunch we ventured to Giordano’s for some authentic deep-dish Chicago-style pizza. What a treat!

After lunch, Pastor Jack and his wife had to leave, so our team walked over to a large mall on Michigan Avenue. From there, the team and the Coffey family split up for the rest of the day. Aaron took Asher and Liam to the Lego store, while Stephanie surprised Ella and took her to the American Girl Doll store! The team cruised down Michigan Avenue, stopping by a couple of street performers on their way down to Navy Pier for an architectural tour from the river. It was great to see the city from such a different point of view. For the final bit of the day, we met up with a couple of friends for dinner and grabbed a beautiful view of the Chicago skyline, all lit up that evening.

We had a long and adventure filled day! What a blessing to get to experience Chicago all together as a team.
