Jesus is Better

As our team studies through “Show Them Jesus”, a book on how to weave the empowerment of the gospel into every aspect of our lives, I have been overwhelmed by this one simple fact, that Jesus is a zillion times better! I’ve heard my whole life that the gospel (or the Good News) is more than just the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ and that it applies to my everyday life, but I’ve fallen short when it comes to applying that truth. Whether it’s learning the patience to deal with the group in our kids program or battling to conquer a specific sin struggle, the Gospel alone is enough to remind me of the victory I’ve already received through Christ and the freedom that I now have to love and serve Him.

I’ve lived for so long with the mindset that I have to look and act a certain way for God to truly be pleased with me. While I knew that behavior was never good enough to gain salvation, somewhere along the way I had slipped into the false belief that behavior was good enough to then keep me in good-standing with my Almighty Father.

So the Good News (the Gospel) is that Christ has already earned the favor of God that I would be hopelessly searching for outside of Him. Learning to see the Gospel through this new lens has changed my perspective on the Christian life entirely. There’s freedom in worshiping God because through CHRIST I have been brought very near to Him. There’s freedom in sharing Christ with others because it no longer depends on the words I say, but GOD has promised that He will accomplish what He desires through His shared Word. There’s freedom in serving others because CHRIST has given me the power and grace to love others selflessly as He loves me selflessly. And there is so much freedom in my relationship with God because CHRIST has already earned my righteousness. I cannot add to Christ’s righteousness and because of the finished work of Christ on the cross, there is nothing I can do to take away from it! This is what makes Jesus a zillion times better!
