Our next week of ministry took us Clarksburg, West Virginia. Pastor Jayson Byrd of Emmanuel Baptist Church just took the church this past summer and has great new vision for the church. We were excited to get started with plugging in to the school throughout the week in chapels. Jason, Brad and Aaron preached to the elementary kids as well as the teens. We spent a lot of time with them in various ways.

One of the highlights of the week was getting to play with Braden, a 7th grade banjo player. We practiced with him throughout the week and had him perform with us on Friday  for the Irish Concert. We enjoyed the opportunity to play “Foggy Mountain Breakdown” and “Cripple Creek” with him. He did a great job!

The Bob Jones ministry team was ministering in the school on Tuesday with their robotics program. We were able to fellowship with them on Sunday night as well as a few other times throughout the week. It was a blessing to get time together, make new friends, and swap traveling stories!

Brad was asked to direct the high school choir for a few days. We taught them “One Day”. Since Brad graduated from college with a Masters degree in choral directing, he was in his element. It was fun to get to see him teaching the teens how to blend and listen to each other. They were able to sing “One Day” with us on Friday night’s concert  as the first song in our sacred part of our concert. It was a blessing to have them join us in the evening’s music.

Aaron led a Family Fun Night on Wednesday night, and many families came out for the event. After the children presented their Secret Keeper program to the parents – sharing the secret codes, our verse (Matthew 16:24) and singing our song – we began a very close and intense game of Tic Tac Challenge. Aaron closed out the evening with a message from God’s Word that was an encouragement and challenge to families! What a fun night.

Instead of having a normal class schedule on Thursday, we took the morning to have a competition with the students. We all played fun games interspersed with messages from the Word. The teens were challenged to take their relationship with the Lord very purposefully in their lives through Aaron’s message of 1 Peter, looking at the martyrs of the faith. They were reminded that “to live is Christ and to die is gain.”

We enjoyed the opportunity to make new friends at Emmanuel and look forward to ministering with them in the future.
