Grace Baptist Church (Kokomo, IN) & The Wilds (Brevard, NC)

This was an unusual week for our team. Aaron spent the weekend at the Wilds Christian Camp in Brevard, NC, while the team served at Grace Baptist Church of Kokomo, IN.

Grace Baptist Church

It was a joy and privilege for the team to serve with Grace Baptist Church of Kokomo, Indiana. Carol Anne’s brother, Drew Matthews, is the associate pastor of the church, so it was particularly encouraging to her and Matt to be serving and spending time with family. Saturday jump started the week with a men’s flag football tournament at Trinity Baptist Church in Westfield. Several churches came together and played six rounds of games. The guys were all very sore but had a blast playing on the team from Grace. It was comical watching them limp around. Sunday morning, the team led congregational music and sang a special. It was a special treat hearing Pastor Williams preach. Pastor Kerry Williams has been on staff at Grace Baptist Church since 1997 and has been lead pastor since 2002. He was a great encouragement to us as he invested in the team and shared his burden for his people.

​The rest of the week was spent with the teens. Sunday night, there was a bonfire for the teens at Drew & Jessie’s house. Monday through Wednesday were teen nights at the church. Brian & Traci DeHaven and Drew & Jessie Matthews work closely with the teens, and it was a joy serving with them and getting to know them. They were an encouragement to us as they shared their burdens for the teens. We played games (lots of 9-square-in-the-air) and then learned from God’s Word. Monday, Matt asked the teens to anonymously write down questions they had and then we discussed them as a group on Tuesday night. It was challenging for Matt and the team to hear the deep questions the teens had about faith and living Godly in an ungodly world. Wednesday night, the girls and guys split up and the team shared their testimonies and answered impromptu questions. God graciously gave us wisdom in answering some tough questions and gave us joy in letting us see hearts tender toward His Word.

The Wilds

Aaron enjoyed the opportunity to preach for the Teen Adventure Weekend at the Wilds Christian Camp in Brevard, NC. There were lots of teens who attended the “mini-camp”, and many of them professed faith in Jesus Christ alone! It was also a huge encouragement for Aaron to reconnect with old relationships.
