It was a blessing to serve at Layton Chapel Baptist Church in Spring Lake, NC. This was our first time being here, and we were looking forward to partnering together! Pastor Steve Swagger and his pastoral staff--the Chanceys, and the Sparrows, were such a blessing to serve with. We kicked off the week with a North Carolina BBQ dinner and prayer time on Saturday night with the deacons, pastors, and church families. 2 Chronicles 7:14 says, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” There is such peace that comes when we give the services and the hearts of people over to our Sovereign God and trust and ask Him to work in the hearts of His people. We praise the Lord for answered prayers! God gave us many opportunities to share His Word through music, through preaching, and through normal conversations. Several people indicated that they trusted Christ alone to save them from their sins. Sunday night through Wednesday night, Pastor Swagger recognized different people in the congregation: military night, grandparent night, and several other special nights. Tuesday night, the singles on the team joined John and Bethany Chancy and the singles group for nachos and board games. They loved the opportunity to hang out with other singles and greatly appreciated the encouragement John and Bethany were to them. Each day, a man from the church, Chef Bill, prepared lunch for our team and the pastoral staff. It was great to get to know the staff outside of services or work-related conversations. Thursday at lunch, Pastor’s son brought some co-workers from the K-9 unit in Spring Lake and showed us his police dog. It was awesome! We had a blast with Layton Chapel and left very encouraged by the work God did in us and through us this week. For more pictures from our time there, check out our Facebook page!
